What we put in our bodies matters. That’s why we spend a lot of time choosing what we put in our bars and drinks. We are proud of the ingredients we use. Everything is 100% natural, as organic as possible, and contains no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Use this ingredient glossary to find out more about what’s in our food.
- B-Vitamins
This group of B-vitamins (also known as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folate and cyanocobalamin) play an important roll in cell metabolism and regeneration.
- Brown Rice Syrup
A natural sweetener made from organic brown rice, brown rice syrup is less refined then other sugars, like high fructose corn syrup. Along with organic evaporated cane juice this sweetener contributes to the great taste of LUNA without adding too much sugar.
- Calcium
Works in muscle contraction and is important for bone strength. Vitamin D helps aid calcium absorption.
- Citric Acid
Provides tartness, and is naturally occurring in citrus fruit such as lemons and oranges.
- Cocoa Butter
A natural fat derived from the cocoa bean. Organic cocoa butter is a saturated fat can be found in the coating and drizzle of LUNA’s bar products.
- Corn Starch
A natural thickener that comes from organic corn.
- Evaporated Cane Juice
A natural sweetener, evaporated cane juice sugar from sugar cane that goes through less processing than table sugar. Along with organic brown rice syrup this sweetener contributes to the great taste of LUNA without adding too much sugar.
- Fiber
Mainly found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes, fiber provides many health benefits from lowering cholesterol to regulating digestion. In LUNA products, fiber is found in our organic oats, oat fiber, organic flaxseed, nuts, dried fruit, and inulin.
- Folic Acid (B9)
Found naturally in leafy greens, this B-vitamin is especially important for women in their child-bearing years as it has a big role in cell growth and development.
- Gluten
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, oats, and rye. Gluten found in oats is sometimes tolerable to those who are gluten intolerant. However, oats used in LUNA bars are grown in the same field and processed in the same mill as wheat and therefore may contain traces of wheat gluten.
- Inulin
A type of fiber found in onions, leeks, artichokes and garlic. The inulin in LUNA’s bar products comes from the chicory plant, or endive.
- Iron
An essential mineral that helps deliver oxygen to all tissues in the body.
- Natural Flavors
Our natural flavors are a proprietary blend of plant-based ingredients. There is no MSG in our natural flavors.
- Oat Flour
A flour made from ground oats.
- Oats
Organic oats are a great source of fiber and an excellent way to lower cholesterol. They are also rich in B vitamins and other minerals.
- Palm Kernel Oil
Extracted from the seeds of the oil palm tree, palm kernel oil is a source of linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid. It is comprised of monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, and saturated fats, and does not contain trans-fat.
- Soy Beans
We use roasted organic soybeans for added flavor, texture and protein as part of our soy rice crisp. Soy beans are the only vegetable with a complete protein (the highest quality, and most easily absorbed kind of protein).
- Soy Crisp
Made from puffed milled rice and soy protein. Adds texture and protein to LUNA bar and LUNA Protein.
- Soy Lecithin
Used as an emulsifier in the coating and chocolate chips in LUNA bar and LUNA Protein.
- Soy Protein
Derived from soybeans, this protein may contribute to heart health by reducing cholesterol.
- Soy Protein Isolate
Made from soy beans, soy protein isolate is the protein portion of the bean. It contributes to the protein found in the crisp of LUNA and LUNA Protein.
- Vitamin D
Found naturally in fish, eggs and milk, Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium.
- Vitamins A, C, E
These antioxidants help prevent cell damage and boost the immune system.
- Whole Grains
Unrefined grains that still have all parts of the grain intact. Examples of whole grains are oats, quinoa, rice, wheat and corn. Whole grains tend to have more nutritional value then other grains.
- Zinc
An essential mineral that enhances immune function and cell growth and maintenance.
